Shontelle Sure Has Shontelligence

“T-Shirt” an R+B song by Shontelle - is a rhythmic song with a catchy beat and chorus that has just enough ingenuity to separate it from the typical R+B song. She has a nice voice that sweet to listen to. The rhythm of the lyrics is the trademark of the song.

It does get a little repetitive and they overdid the chorus maybe one or two times too many but it is still a very strong four star track that you should download for your January 2009 itunes play list.

We The Kings first big time single is called “Check Yes Juliet (Run Baby Run).” The song is a power pop combination that reminds me of Boys Like Girls and brings the same type of energy that makes that band fun to listen to.

We The Kings is a stupid name for a band but I’ll look past that to this quality song. A five star track it is the type of song that encourages listeners to look up more by the same band. I’ll definitely be checking for some other stuff by them and I’ll report back!

20 Dollar Nosebleed

Fallout Boy’s latest release - Folie A Deux - brings the typical choppy vocals and instrumentals for the band. “20 Dollar Nosebleed isn’t really anything special and I wouldn’t download it unless you’re a big fan of the band or like piano type instrumentals combined with whiny lyrics.

Two stars for this song - not one of the band’s strongest efforts. I deleted it after writing this review. Nothing special here. Move on. Get something else. See ya. Enough rambling.

Make “The Call” and Download it

Watching the latest movie in the Chronicles of Narnia series one can not help but be entertained by the powerful musical scores presented in the film. The song that ends the movie is a song called “The Call” by Regina Spektor. Her haunting vocals and endlessly unique voice perfectly captures the finale of the movie. The song is so good that it easily stands on its own without the context of the movie - which was decent but nothing amazing.

Five stars for Regina Spektor who has one of the coolest voices in music today. Its the kind of song that rings in your head and can fit any situation.

Winners Song a Winner? Three Stars

Sure it’s a little bizzare that the singer “Geraldine McQueen” is actually British comedian Peter Kay singing in drag. But for some odd reason the “Winner’s Song” actually is somewhat catchy and has a little silly melody to it.

The words are a clear poke at American Idol and Simon Cowell as well as the entire idea of reality TV. The song is worth a listen though and its not the worst thing I’ve ever heard. I gave it three stars because its definitely something different than most music listeners are used to, for better or for worse. Enjoy. Or don’t.

“Take Me Home Tonight” No Doubt 5 Stars

I probably don’t need to tell you how awesome this song is. No doubt if you have ever heard it you know of its awesomeness. It is such an awesome song that its awesomeness is evident in all of its awesome lyrics. You will sing awesomely as soon as the song comes on the awesome stereo that you no doubt will listen to it on.

You probably don’t need to download it since you already have it on all your playlists but if for some awesome reason you don’t have it, get it as awesomely fast as you can. Oh yeah the song is awesome. TAKE ME HOME TONIGHT!

“Feel Good Drag” Makes You Feel Good - 5 Stars

Anberlin’s New Surrender album is an excellent cd led by “Feel Good Drag” a powerful rock and inspirational type of song that gets you yelling and screaming before you know what happened. It has a mix of screaming and whispering type vocals that works very well together.

As usual the instrumentals supporting the vocals are strong. This is a song you’re really going to like. It has all the elements of being a top hit song and the whole sing-a-long bit makes it a success. Don’t miss this one as its one you’ll be listening to over and over and over again on your ipod and in the car. Even ringtone worthy!

“It’s the only one you’ve got” all you need - Five stars!

3 Doors Down’s self titled latest album has a plethora of great music on it. Preeminent among the track selections is the song “It’s the only one you’ve got.” The song is an epic song with a real identity and soul to it. This song which focuses on living your life to the fullest is a catchy and well written track that will have you singing along from the bottom of your stomach.

The buildup to the chorus is memorable:

If you’re afraid to fight… than I guess you never will… You hiiiiide behind….

This is one of their best songs that they have ever released and might be something that you didn’t have before. This is a standout track on a standout album from the band. Kudos to them for putting together a collection like this.

“Welcome Home” This 4.5 star track

Coheed and Cambria, a band who has yet to achieve what would be considered mainstream media success has nonetheless put themselves firmly on the map as a group to stay. They have a very strong following among raggae and alternative music aficianados. The song “Welcome Home” which some may recognize from music video games like Rock Band is one of their most popular and recognizable tracks. It includes a great deal of musical genious in its rhythms as well as the unique vocals synonymous of Coheed and Cambria.

Four and a half stars for a brilliant guitar song and overall well put together track that has you listening to every second and not hitting the fast forward button anytime it comes on. A must download!

Take Some Three Star “Amphetamines”

Eve 6, a band that came out with a couple of hits a decade ago hasn’t been able to replicate their initial success but has still had enough staying power to put out a few more decent alternative albums. Horrorscope fits into that category of neither forgettable or memorable songs. “Amphetamines” is a song that has a repeatable chorus that is typical of the band.

The Chorus:

Phone me once in a while
Let me know youre alright
Tell you again that Im fine
Then we go about our separate lives

The band uses a unique pausing technique in the chorus to make it into the type of song that you sing as you’re working out - if that’s the type of thing that you do. Three and a half stars would be a fitting rating for a song like this, but if you like alternative you will really like this song and its chorus.
