Tenth Review: Freedom Cardboard

The name Beckett is a name synonymous with card collecting and sports. As the hobby of collecting cards has developed into an online and ebay driven activity, Beckett’s online Message Board became a haven for collectors of all sports. Hobby enthusiasts gathered on the board to discuss players, cards and games. The site became a great source of information about upcoming products and speculation about hot prospects. In early August of this year, the site closed down and was reborn. The new site, difficult to use and anything but user friendly, drew horrible reviews from users, who looked quickly for alternatives.

Users from the original board created a new site, Freedom Cardboard. Located at Freedomcardboard.com, the new site is the new home for the collecting elite. The same type of rabid fan discussion formerly found on Beckett can now be found at FCB. It is quickly becoming the go to site for any type of sporting information and talk about the hobby. Be sure to check it out and report back!

Absolutely love the new Freedom Cardboard Site. Great group of guys from the Beckett Message Boards (BMB) still are the foundation and driving force for the new site. It’s truely is user friendly and a great place to discuss sports topics and collecting. Try to find a site that has more up-to-minute information about the hobby. I DARE YOU!!
The FCB is 15,000 x’s better than BMB.
    PERIOD!

I like the idea & it seemed like a great place at first, but then the site’s host/creator began acting as a “dictator” (banning new member’s because he didn’t like them from the old Beckett board’s, with no other reason to show; not very mature/professional to have a site host banning member’s when he gets mad at them for stating thier opinion’s…doesn’t sound like much “Freedom” to me). To take it further, he is quelling his own vendetta’s by handing out suspension’s to member’s whom do not agree with his point of view (I hope the current member’s follow his lead & don’t overstep thier place by speaking thier mind). Now the site has turned into his own private advertising board where he has subtly promoted a new company “Razor” & thier upcoming products (I wonder what he’s receiving under the table?).

@ Jeff- Don’t talk in half truths and comment on things you don’t know or understand. The sites host/creator does nothing but help collectors have a place to discuss the hobby they love. The only “banning” going on are with a few REALLY bad apples that do nothing but hurt the site for it’s users. Your issues with him is something that was obviously serious enough to warrant you a ban. In order for anyone to be banned, they have to REALLY mess up or cause problems, and it’s clear you did that before the site was even fully up (aka started on the old BMB). Now, as for the Razor thing, you probably shouldn’t make bold claims unless you know them to be true. There is nothing coming under the table from them, and nothing is being “pimped”. Advertising is something all sites use in one way or another, and Razor wants to have an advertising deal on the FCB. They know the potential to reach their customer base, which is smart business on their part. They also happen to be nice guys who will listen to the consumer, which makes it that much better. The same type of deal has been proposed to Topps and they are more hesitant about doing it (go figure!), so don’t make accusations of shadiness and under the table dealings. Get over your issues and move on. No need to trash a great site like the FCB, when you’re only motive is be vindictive about YOUR own mistakes.

Jeffrey Kilmore, or Suprdav if you prefer, is an idiot. He stalked the “dictator” and tried to get him fired from his job due to a common internet squabble. He causes trouble, and would only dampen the board experience for all of the other board member if he was allowed to post. The board is still open to his viewing pleasure, but members such as he are not welcome at this board.

FCB is a grea board with hundreds of great members! Check it out!

The only intentions of the host of the site is to make a buck. Everyday he is trying out some other advertising clutter to try and capitalize on the advertising potential of the message board. I am sure a lot of the smarter members realize this, and you may soon see an exodus of members to other sites. I would stay away. Sportscard forums seem like a better place to try.

Freedom Card Board is a fantastic place with lots of great and generous users who are all great traders. All of the people there are highly respected people in the hobby and it’s a great place to trade cards, talk about sports, or laugh it up at a funny youtube video. It’s an awesome place and I highly reccomend it to others.

ProspectPlus–I am sorry you feel that way. I don’t see it as a way for anyone to “make a buck” on the FCB site. I think that what is happening is that the staff is trying to customize the site for what collectors want and have come to expect in a great site. Advertising is a part of any site, granted, but its the members that drive it. If you participate, the site continues to grow. If not, we have nothing. FCB is by far one of the easiest places to navigate around in and the laid back atmosphere is a definite plus over other sites. While revenues may be collected via advertising, please remember that it takes money to continue to enhance features for the members. Revenues can also be used to give back to the membership via giveaways, contests, and prizes. Everything FCB has offered to members has been free and nothing has been asked of monetarily speaking to any member.

I assure anyone that reads these comments and the review that it is not in the interest of anyone that has put in time in developing the site to try to snow over the membership by trying to “make a buck” on anything. Please look at and understand all the aspects of the operation and logistics of a site before you make assumptions such as the ones you have made concerning the “monetary gains” that FCB is/is not trying to make.
